Don't get me wrong I love it but it sucks.Let me put down some of the
reasons why I think it sucks.
1) Christmas parades.
I live in Ontario were it's not uncommon for a div2/3 corps to do
2-6 parades a weekend.I'm wearing next to nothing ,holding a big piece
of cold medal walking miles down the street on a super cold winter day.Drummers can't wear glovesso their lives are sucking as much as mine.After 1 parade we all get on a school bus and go do another and another.It was my favorite reason to leave Ontario drum corps.
2)Money
We spend all this money on marching which alot of us can't afford.I'm
only marching my age out because someone else is paying for it.I don't regret this but because I march I started College 2 years late(because
of money not smarts),I have no driving license(in Ontario it costs $600
to get it).Drum corps needs to be better financally.We all hear about
the corps that doesn't feed fit's members by the end of tour because
they can't afford to.This happens alot.
3)The summer.
This is the time of year we all wait for.In the summer I've raised the
risk of skin cancer more and more.I already can't practice with my shirt
off because I've got all these spots on my back.They weren't there
before.I play Contra and now I have back problems.I've had to take
therapy twice already for my back.Then we sleep on a bus like an bunch
of Indians on a train in India.A gym floor becomes a great thing.Before drumcorps I never ever would think hey look at that gym floor I'd like
to sleep on it.
4)Florida
I just really really really really hate Florida.It's way to hot to have finals there ever again.Hey lets put on our wool cotton blend uniforms
and go march a drumcorps show in the middle of a 110 degree Florida afternoon.I think it's going to be fun.HOW MANY PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN
FLORIDA WEAR SWEATERS IN THE SUMMER!!GO MADISON.
5)Enviroment
I read a thing about the amount of trash an average drum corps
produces.I don't really remember right now but we all know it's
alot.I've seen at least 5 big bags from my corps a day in the
summer.I'll put those numbers up later.It's in the '92 program.
6)Shows
Where else would I run around with 30 pds of medal on my shoulder trying
to play Jazz.Real Jazz musicans would laugh out loud at me.So would ny professial.Drum corps is the most unmusical thing in the world.There's
alot of corps who have none at all(M__i__o_ S_o__s).I bet I'm in troble now.We are the only thing that will play in a stadium with 30,000 people
and have no amps going.It's like an old beatle concert.Were they had
about 2 amps each and Ringo had nothing.
I don't want you guys to get me wrong.My best friends are all from Drumcorps.All my friends are drum corps people.I don't regret doing drum corps but it's not a good thing to do.
I'm pretty drained right but I'll get some more for later.
