    The Prisoner

“I am not a number; I am a free man.”
“I will not make any deals with you. I’ve resigned. I will not be
pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered.
    My life is my own.”

    - Patrick McGoohan

Can anyone imagine DW venturing close to the resonant statements
of The Prisoner? It was so far ahead of its time, that it remains
relevant. It could easily be about the present. Post-AI and all.

That not to say some episodes of the first series weren't
memorable and impactful. 'The long Game' springs to mind.

These days the 'magic realism' slant for the stories makes it
hard for DW to make a rational point. Still as they say, where
    there's life....

    Come on DW

    and here comes the balloon

The balloon, like the village, was always about the visuals.
I suppose these days it would be replaced by some fancy CGI.

They had a go at recreating the Prisoner as a mini series in
the early 2000s, but even then it didn't quite hit the mark.
It tried to evoke the same dreamy nowhere atmosphere of the
    original without conveying its subtext.

The original was almost ant-cultural. I'm not doing that.
I resign, i want out, i'm no poster boy for that profession.

If only they had the Prisoner as a would be defector from
the Stasi, it might have held some of the context of the
    original series.

Are there any McGoohan's to make the same points.

I loved that show. It was on TV about 10 years ago, and recorded half
the episodes. Unfortunately missed the first. Fall Out was the best.
    Completely bonkers ending.

Big Finish did an audio adaptation of "The Prisoner" a few years ago
with Mark Elstob as No.6 (Titan did a tie-in comic too)... it was
enjoyable enough for what it was, but nowhere as good as the
    original TV series obviously.
