• The Worst Band, plain and simple.

Union Endicott was a great marching band, especially under Dr. Joseph Scagnoli. It was a show band. There was a different half time every week, designed by professional drill writers. The band had more than 650 members giving lots of sound and lots of
bodies for shapes. They started this by going to all the elementary schools asking parents to start their children on an intrument making one big promise that your child will get to go to a bowl parade at sometime during their high school years. A
promise they kept. Every four years UE was invited and marched in a bowl parade. In addition, every year they were PAID by the Buffalo Bills to do one half time. One year being PAID by both the Bills and the Patriots to play halftime. All of these games
were televised adding to the band resume. UE had a special field for the band to practice which they did every day after school until 5pm. Starting on Monday you were a dot and number on a stack of stapled papers, the halftime for the week. You worked it
without music that day to get positioning. With just shy of 700 kids they were able to do images like a train engine that literally moved down the track with moving wheels and smoke coming from the stack. Or getting a standing ovation at the Patriots
playing the Dolphins for Jesus Christ Superstar. The assistant director was good too, mr. Slecta. There was nothing like the UE band. I was lucky to have seen it all and go to 5 pro games and the Cotton Bowl, four years before me, they went to the Rose
    Bowl.
