A dramatic reading may make me cringe. Now and again, voice acting, and attendant excessive elocution, engenders contempt within me. In my case,
this behavior goes all the way back to elementary school.
My predisposition makes mechanical, monotonic Microsoft Dave's voice
a safe choice for audiobook. Dave's one of the standard voices supported

Audiobooks generally work well with fiction and verbose, straight
forward, non-fiction. _Genetics for Dummies_ makes a suitable non-
fictional audiobook for instance. But only simple, shallow (sans
footnotes) Bible readings flow smoothly enough as an audiobook.
The Spirit moved me to celebrate Lent by studying Ecclesiastes:

4:5 "Fools fold their arms and consume their own flesh"—*

The pertinent footnote would jar if heard at a later point in time:

Consume their own flesh: an enigmatic statement. In the context
of vv. 4 and 6 it seems to warn that those who refuse to work
for the necessities of life will suffer hunger and impair their
bodily health. But the verse could also be intended for the
industrious: Even the lazy may manage to have "their own flesh,"
that is, have sufficient food to eat.

Perry Rhodan up to 459 "Der Archivplanet" comprises my current fictional listening. Two notable changes present in _Die Cappins_ Zyklus [1] are inter-galactic exploration, along with Perry's son Mike.
The plots have become more intricate. Nowadays nuanced realpolitik
rules. Gone are the deus ex machina glory days when a Pucky or a
Halutor superpower simply saved the day.

_The Higgs Fake: How Particle Physicists Fooled the Nobel Committee_
(Unziker) is my latest non-fictional audiobook.
Imagine the millennia long blind alley of epicycles [2] as more
common than thought. With excenters and equants invented, as needed,
to keep profoundly flawed theory afloat at any cost.
Add unlimited government funding to cement "bigger's better" into
place as a precursor to procreate particle physics ad infinitum. The
essence of Unziker's criticism is how unscientific influences retard
    science.
This book also serves a secondary purpose. It's a great cornucopia
    of quotes!
