• Schizoid thought dance - real and imagined

Mindfulness offers a good technique to cope with intrusive, obsessive thought-loops:

You may notice that just at the moment you become aware of a
thought, it passes and is replaced by another thought. That's
what happens - thoughts come, and they go.

Multi-modal thought presents a provocative possibility, given how humans habitually operate in only one of two modes:

What is the nature of the representations that mediate human
thought? Two representational formats are most commonly discussed
in the literature. First, people talk to themselves silently – a
phenomenon often termed inner speech. Inner speech has been shown to
play an important role in propositional thought, working memory,
long-term memory, numerical cognition, self-awareness, and self-
reflection. Although some have discussed inner speech in a narrow
sense of phonological-level processes, we adopt a broader definition,
which includes generation of meaningful linguistic representations.
The second type of representation is visual imagery. Visual imagery
occurs when perceptual information is accessed from memory, giving
rise to the experience of "seeing with the mind's eye", and has been
shown to be important in simulating object manipulation, and self-
    projection.

A central character called Ovaron appears in Perry Rhodan 7 Zyklus
_Die Cappins_. Ovaron's a Tryzome dancer:

Two of these atomically reshaped molecular units in the
bloodstream allow their wearer - a so-called Tryzome dancer – to
think in two directions. The disadvantage is that the polar tryzomas
can develop opposing emotions during two-pronged thinking, making
the person incapacitated and helpless. If the Tryzome dancer
coordinates his Tryzome, it is possible to think about two problems
at the same time. This makes him superior to other people who are
not as gifted because he can make well-founded decisions more
    quickly.

Allow me to share a couple of other observations unrelated to thought
dancing, yet pertinent to PR 7 Zyklus. First, _Die Cappins_ uses an
interesting literative technique whereby a plot point in the PR 440
"The Ring of Destruction" novella foreshadows a grander event in a
    later novella.

The special transmitter had started working a second before
the dome appeared clearly visible and completely rematerialized
in the valley. The hyper-based transmitter triggered the radio
receivers in the micro-bombs, which had survived three thousand
    years without damage.

PR 440 "The Ring of Destruction"

Here now the decision is to be made, and they are confronted
with the question whether the two hundred thousand year old
six-dimensional time bomb, which Ovaron secretly installed
into the tube system of the air conditioning system of the
Death Satellite during his mission on Zeut, can be detonated
    or not.

    PR 444 "Worlds in Fear"

The mythical planet Zeut segues into my second observation. Nowadays
Zeut's remnants are referred to as the Solar System's Asteroid belt.
Back in the day, when Zeut was whole, flora and fauna exploded into
existence every couple of centuries - as happened every day in
    "Frost and Fire" (Bradbury).

    Danke,

    Danke,

There are apparently people with no inner monologue, and they get by just
fine somehow. As I recall, this was an element in the SF book _The Yngling_.

I think van Vogt's "Mixed Men" may have had two minds, but it didn't seem
to help Maltby all that much as he was a typical conflicted vv hero.

Aldiss wrote an interesting story (in the second person) about a planet
whose *first* evolved lifeform was man.
