_Dune_'s the only story from the short list read by me. As a dilettante
who reads science fiction for escapist entertainment, it doesn't trouble
me in the least to have read only one story. Sfnal awards are for
adults anyway - grown-ups, mature people, who value literature for
    literature's sake.

    Danke,

    The Star Fox
    Dune
    A Plague of Demons

My memories of The Star Fox are pretty vague, and I recall
absolutely nothing about A Plague of Demons other than the
cover, of a sort of canine-looking alien holding some
    kind of gizmo.

I had the snake-filled skull edition. Warner, I think.

I was blown away by _A Plague of Demons_ when I first encountered it
at a tender age. I am trying to think of novels
involving problems using humans as plug in hardware:
_Wolfbane_ P&K (can't think of anything earlier)
    _Four in One_ Damon Knight
    and I guess _The Matrix_

Cheers, David Duffy (who has read 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 and might chase down 1)
