    I found it interesting that the review pointed out so many things in
    the novel as being "thinly disguised" versions of persons or
    publications in the real world, but what with arsenic and cyanide being
    both well-known poisons, it passed over in silence the thinnest of the
    thin disguises... National Arsenamid for American Cyanimid.

    Also, while I was not prepared either to conduct in-depth research on
    the career of John Sladek, I believe I have found an explanation for the ten-year gap in his SF output. Simply by visiting the Wikipedia page on
    this author. That seemed to be less than onerous as a research programme.

    From which I also learned that he was the author of a nonfiction book
    I had read: _The New Apocrypha_.

    In that ten-year gap, it seems that in order to pay the rent, he was writing mystery novels instead.
