    To be nit picky.

    The farthest stars visible to the naked eye are around 16,000 light years away. Beyond
    that, only fairly close supernovas are visible, such as SN 1987A, at 168,000 lya.

    I suspect the strip is referring to the notion that the accelerating expansion of the universe
    will eventually dim and redshift galaxies to the point we can see them with telescopes.
