• OT: Starship launch attempt today.

From petertrei@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Mon Apr 17 05:47:27 2023
At the moment, its scheduled for 9:20 EDT

Musk is keeping expectations limited, saying that it will be
    "exciting" whatever happens.

If all goes to plan, the huge first stage will 'land' on the Gulf of Mexico, then
    topple over and sink.

The Starship stage will fly *almost* to orbit, and reenter north of the Hawaiian islands. This will test the heatshield system. It will bellyflop
    into the water and sink.

    Fun to be had!

Apparently a boat entered the exclusion zone.

Maybe so - lots of news sources here saying launch was postponed
due to a booster pressurization issue. Maybe/hopefully Wednesday now.

The announcer on SpaceX's live feed said booster pressurization.

Or a privileged 1%-er on a yacht. Rules are for hoi polloi.

Or a Save the Whales boat.

Or a hidden tanker carrying contraband Russian oil.

    The possibilities are endless.

The announcer on SpaceX's live feed said booster pressurization.

That's correct, and Musk tweeted to that effect. I was repeating a
story that turned out to be incorrect, from the reddit live thread.

Some are speculating that Muck wants to launch on 4/20, for
    reasons of fun.

There actually was a point in the countdown where there was
a boat downrange, although as noted, that's not why the launch
    was postponed.

I like the idea of one ship that is all three of the above. A 1%-er on
their yacht trying to save whales while smuggling Russian oil. :D
