    After release from Leavenworth, an ex-military man takes up a quiet life
    of calculated casino gambling. Paul Schrader's brooding, focused THE
    CARD COUNTER continues his obsession with obsession (e.g., TAXI DRIVER,
    THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST). Although his point here doesn't fully
    resonate with me, the journey is compelling. Mostly recommended.

    To say we disagree in our assessment of this film would be an
    understatement.
