Here comes Fr. Russell Crowe, zipping his Vespa scooter through Italy in
1987, his ominous black Exorcist bag in tow. THE POPE'S EXORCIST offers surprisingly good production values to go with Crowe's creditworthy performance. And its story reprises enough of the '73 classic to evoke
some the original's creepiness. (n.b.: An actual sequel is slated for October.) However, its pacing seemed a bit mechanical for a sincere
horror movie -- a lapse unfortunately explained by its final unmasking
as a TV-series pilot. Fie ...and only minimally recommended.
