• New Movie Theater Pricing Plan

From Irish Mike@21:1/5 to All on Sun Feb 19 07:30:10 2023
In my area the indoor theaters just announced a
new pricing plan - the best seats cost more. So,
it used to be if you really wanted the best seats you just
got there early. Now you have to reserve them and pay more.

But it really doesn't matter to me because I almost never go
to indoor theaters any more. I'd much rather watch it
at home with pause, fast forward, rewind, closed caption
and no crowd of strangers. Not to mention cheaper
snacks and reduced risk of germ transmission. Frankly,
i'm kind of amazed those indoor theater chains are still in business.

How are they going to enforce it? Most theaters didn't have nearly enough employees to have ushers at each seating.

Good question. I have no idea how they'll ever enforce it - especially after the
    movie begins.

Well, you're right. This preferred-seating BS is the greatest idea for
movies since DIVX. They've managed to chip away at the one thing
theaters still uniquely offer: the shared audience-experience...

If someone is one of those morons who sit more than 1/2 way to the back of the theatre, they loose much of the impact of the theatre anyway. Screen not occupying a decent percentage of their vision, the immersive quality lost. But the pay for premium
model that has been normal at sporting events for ever, was bound to hit theatres. People hate to expend any physical effort or time to obtain preferable conditions if money can buy it instead.

Stadiums have had numbered seats for much longer than I've been alive. Of course this will likely only be used for a few screenings where there might be a large audience.
