• The Greatest Western of all Time

From Irish Mike@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jan 26 07:24:25 2023
I've always liked Westerns and I've seen most of
them from the good to the bad and the ugly -
pun intended. My question is, in your opinion,
what is The greatest Western of all time?

Not an easy choice to be sure but for me it's clear:
"Lonesome Dove". And your choice is?

Well I haven't seen all westerns by any means, but

"Red River" was probably my favorite, though there are many others
    I thoroughly enjoyed.

Is “Unforgiven” a great movie or is it just a really good movie with one great scene?

The Schofield Kid: It don't seem real. How he ain't gonna never breathe
again, ever. How he's dead. And the other one, too. All on account of
    pulling a trigger.

William Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. You take away all
he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

William Munny: We all have it coming, Kid.

There are so many great westerns — just too many to pick a “greatest of all time.” it’s an impossible challenge.

But yeah, it’s hard to argue against “Lonesome Dove.”

Yup, after #5. Along with The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly.

I just realized that I put two #2s on my list.

And Rio Lobo, Two Mules For Sister Sara, and Support Your Local Sheriff
    / Gunfighter.

Yes. The scene with the cowboys eating beans around the campfire was
    hilarious amongst others.

Lonesome Dove is an amazing epic and definitely one of the best if not
    the best mini-series ever written.

Now, what would qualify as "the greatest wester of all time"?
If you look at it in terms of: "what movie is the best rendition of the
western genre, ever made" then I would go for The Good The Bad And The Ugly.
