    Two days ago ...

Domestically, the film has accumulated a total of $183 million,
with an additional $426.8 million from overseas so far.

I doubt Cameron is crying into his blue coffee. :-)

Plus, the third movie is almost done, so most of the expenditure being
reported will be the cost of making the two movies 'back to back'.

The fourth, fifth, ... movies are already in the planning.

As above, that amount is likely for both the second and third movies
combined. Claiming they haven't made "enough" to cover that amount from
solely the first of those two movies being released is inanely
    ridiculous.

Just wait for it to be on DVD, TV, streaming, etc. and you can have as

bleeping cellphones, whining little kids, etc., not to mention the

Will 'Avatar 2' Hit $2 Billion?
Breaking Down the Blockbuster Sequel's Path to Box Office Glory
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
After just 22 days in theaters, "Avatar: The Way of Water" has
raked in $1.5 billion globally, overtaking "Top Gun: Maverick"
to stand as the 10th-highest grossing movie in history.

It's a remarkable achievement, especially because opening
weekend returns were less stratospheric than Hollywood had
anticipated. But James Cameron's "Avatar" sequel was the de
facto choice at the movies over the busy holiday season,
propelling the sci-fi blockbuster to juggernaut status.

Yep, Hollyweird only wishes it could have more "flops" and
"disappointments" like this new Avatar movie ...

Avatar: The Way of Water grosses US$1.7 billion
    -----------------------------------------------
The Avatar sequel has surpassed another milestone, knocking off
another rival on its way to box office dominance.

James Cameron's Avatar sequel The Way of Water has hit another
milestone, charging its way up the all-time box office list.

As of this weekend, Avatar: The Way of Water has earnt
$US1.7 billion at the global office, and is now the seventh
highest grossing movie of all time, not adjusted for inflation.
It knocked Jurassic World out of the spot.

Avatar: The Way of Water became the top cinema earner of 2022
last week when it surpassed Top Gun: Maverick and its
    $US1.44 billion haul.

The James Cameron blockbuster now has only six movies ahead of
it: Spider-Man: No Way Home ($US1.91 billion), Avengers:
Infinity War ($US2.04 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens
($US2.06 billion), Titanic ($US2.20 billion), Avengers: Endgame
($US2.79 billion) and Avatar ($US2.92 billion).

Two of those top six - Avatar and Titanic - are also directed
    by Cameron.

In Australia, Avatar: The Way of Water raked in Aus$8.28 million
this past weekend for a running total of Aus$66.71 million in
the local market. The ticket sales so far puts it in position
six globally. Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently fifth placed
with a box office of Aus$80.48 million.

In the North American market, which encompasses the US and Canada,
it has ticked over $US516 million, and has proved to have
    remarkable staying power.

The movie underperformed against expectations in its first weekend,
collecting $US435 million globally, against projections of between
$US450 million to $US550 million. But Cameron movies have often
    benefited from a long tail.

'Avatar 2' Continues Box Office Domination,
    ------------------------------------------------
James Cameron's blockbuster sequel "Avatar: The Way of Water"
has claimed the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office for the
    sixth consecutive weekend.

The sci-fi epic added $20 million from 3,790 theaters over the
weekend, declining roughly 40% from its prior outing and
boosting its North American tally to $598 million. It's
currently the 13th-highest grossing domestic release in
history behind "Incredibles 2" ($608 million), "Star Wars: The
Last Jedi" ($620 million) and "The Avengers" ($623 million),
but it's expected to eventually overtake those films.

Notably, "The Way of Water" is officially the sixth film to
ever cross $2 billion worldwide. It has amassed a staggering
$2.02 billion at the worldwide box office, recently taking
down "Spider-Man: No Way Home" ($1.91 billion) as the
sixth-highest grossing release of all time. It's likely to soon
dethrone "Avengers: Infinity War" as the fifth-biggest movie
    with $2.04 billion.
