Penny's Poetry Blog's featured poem for August:
Summer 1969 by Michael G. Munoz

The first turn of July heat
    And I was growing fast
    Leaning into the sun
Like the nascent fan palms sprouting up
Through the cracked black asphalt in the street
    [...]

Quite excellent, and a summer of great remembrance for me, the last one I had in East Buffalo, Doat Road before my parents moved us out to Grand Island...

Summer of 1969, I remember that was the summer you did and your family moved closer to your father's factory job.

A lot of good stories from those days.

For me, 1969 was a glorious year; it will probably always be the best
year for music, as I've said before (the "1969 Dancehall from a few
    years back, eg.)

Of course, for me it was a formative year: it was the year I turned 16.
But I've been surprised to find much younger people also looking back to
    1969 the same way.

For example, here's Bryan Adams singing about his glory days in the
"Summer of '69" when, in fact, he was only 9 years old back then:

I was only 11 in the Summer of 1969, old enough to know things were changing, even down in the sleepy South.

Quite excellent, and a summer of great remembrance for me, the last
one I had in East Buffalo, Doat Road before my parents moved us out to
    Grand Island...

    Indeed.... I was merely ten...!
