I just watched a restored, fully uncut version of
Romano Scavolini's Nightmare in a Damaged Brain
a.k.a. Nightmare (1981).
Looks interesting! I'll have to see if I can track it down in my end of
the world. The poster alone shows it's clearly something I'd like.
One of those UK Video Nasties, it is a must-see
for horror freaks. However, when it comes to
quality, this is a pretty bad slasher movie
after all.
Yeah a lot of stuff that the UK govt was banning was laughably bad, to
be honest. It makes it all the more humourous that they bothered to
crack down on it at all.
I remember doing a class on video nasties during my undergrad. It's a fascinating topic, Britain's deep affection for authoritarianism
manifesting as petty censorship of films that would have no audience
had they not been banned. The only reason anyone even remembers or cares
about any of this stuff is just because they're "video nasties". Good
job, Mary Whitehouse.
