    I totally agree. Sam Raimi's budget was indeed very small, so they
    could not afford to use realistic gore effects in all scenes.
    It is pure horror, though.

    Seconded, I watched it for the first time a long time after it was
    released, but it always read to me more of "low budget horror film" than "slapstick" comedy. And honestly, I am not sure how you would come to
    that conclusion anyway.
