Three cheers for Nancy Pelosi, stepping down from her leadership role
in the US House of Representatives. Before she was House Speaker,
she has long been a representative of (what is now) the CA12 district
in San Francisco. Every time I went to the Chinese Embassy in SF to
protest the Tiananmen Massacre of 1989, she was there standing with
us. Her pragmatic and effective House Speaker tenure, leading to the passages of epic bills that benefitted the many (Obama Care and the
Inflation Reduction Act are just the most prominent) marks her the
greatest Democrat of the last 30 years. There ought to be a movie
about her. (Starring Jessica Chastain, if need be said!) Now that she
has more spare time, maybe she can fly to Taiwan once a week,
forcing the Communist China air force to throw hissy fits and run
large scale exercises -- thereby single-handedly bankrupting them.
