_Dark Phoenix_ isn't nearly as bad as everyone (or the box office)
has declared it to be. In fact, it is the best of the "X-men" things
I've ever seen. Jessica Chastain's platinum blonde villain in
a power suit and 4" heels would have saved it all by itself, but the
story actually has weight to it, as do the fight scenes which are
far more brutal than in X-men movies past, and where where lots
of people actually die, including lead characters. I can't stand
it when superherose bounce off incredible hits without a scratch.
There is no time-travel/alternative universe nonsense to resurrect
anyone, either. A number of subplots seem designed to needle and
alienate the fan-base, which is exactly why this is a better, more thought-provoking production. For example, Charles Xavier is
    portrayed as a smooth-talking, president-kowtowing bureacrat who
has lost his way (at least in the beginning), while the rugged
Magneto has retreated to a commune with fellow mutants, hiding from
both the humans and the Xavier-faction of do-gooders. Michael
Fassbender, who plays magento is an amazing actor, perhaps the best of
his generation. Sophie Turner isn't half-bad as the titular character.
What finally got me to see this on the big screen was Montreal, which
was the stand in for Manhattan. I think one sequence is shot on Rue
Sherbrooke near McGill University. Montreal is certainly more hilly
    than NY.

I've been curious about this one, your write up has increased my interest.

Thanks for the interest! But no one is supposed to read this newsgroup unless he/she wants to spam something or other about political scandal …

I rewatched _Mission Impossible_ when it was on CBS. Tom Cruise's character was actually going on the old usenet (which was where these newsgroups were hosted back then!).
