Court proceedings in the federal case against West Hollywood
resident and political donor Ed Buck have been delayed until
August to allow prosecutors and defense attorneys additional
    time to prepare.

On Oct. 28, United States District Judge Christina A. Snyder
approved the continuance until Aug. 4, 2020, at the request of
both prosecutors and the defendant. Federal authorities
announced in September that Buck would face one count of
distribution of methamphetamine resulting in death in a case
involving 26-year-old Gemmel Moore, who died of an overdose in
Buck’s apartment in 2017. The criminal complaint further alleges
that another man – Timothy Dean – died in Buck’s apartment from
a drug overdose in January, and that Buck provided narcotics to
other men, one of whom suffered two overdoses in early September.

Buck is in custody and will remain in jail until the new Aug. 4
court date. He pleaded not guilty to the charge on Oct. 10.

The federal charges were announced two days after the Los
Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed three charges against
Buck, including one count each of battery causing serious
injury, administering methamphetamine and maintaining a drug
house. Those charges relate to a man who survived an alleged
Sept. 11 overdose at Buck’s Laurel Avenue apartment in West
    Hollywood.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has agreed to let the
federal case proceed before its case against Buck.

If Buck is convicted on the federal charges, he faces a
mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a
maximum sentence of life without parole.

Before the continuance, the next court date in the case was Nov.
    26. Prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed that the case is
complex, and more time was needed to prepare.
