THE MYSTERY OF THE RIDDLER'S PINK COSTUME:
Why did the Riddler have a pink costume? The answer may surprise you.
This infamous Batman villain had a slow start when it came to cementing
himself as a core Batman Rogue. His journey was aided by the 66 Batman
series starring, Adam West and Burt Ward, with Frank Gorshin as the
Riddler. That show not only caused an increase in the character's
popularity, but saw some changes to his costume. Is that why it was
briefly pink? The answer lies in the early DC Comics animation era. We
take a trip to the past to examine this brief blip of a costume here on Casually Comics!

DR. SYN: THE HISTORY OF THE LEGEND (THE SCARECROW OF ROMNEY MARSH BONUS): Historians and Disney personalities share some behind the scenes footage
and secrets of the making of the 3-part mini-series: The Scarecrow of
Romney Marsh. Patrick McGoohan also appears and shares his memories of
making the pictures with Walt Disney and director James Neilson! https://youtu.be/41Pdy4thpbY?si=kh1QpCSbqbSx_q4y
This appears to be a live action show set in the American Revolution
based on Zorro, except he disguises himself as a scarecrow (and shoots people?).

    POLICE SQUAD!:
Part of this weekend's binge on Catchy TV. Still funny.

    WHEN THINGS WERE ROTTEN:
Another part of Catchy TV's binge this weekend. It stinks!

    DOCTOR WHO:
"Face of Evil". The Doctor arrives on a planet where two tribes, the
savage Sevateem and the technically brilliant Tesh, are at war. He meets
Leela, an exile from the Sevateem, and discovers that their god of evil
is apparently himself. I guess I never saw this one before or had
    forgotten how they had met.

    MST3K and RIFFTRAX:
    Several eps of each.

I'm making a big push this weekend to finish everything I can before I
go on vacation next weekend. So the focus was on grading/prepping stuff,
    not TV watching.

    Still, I got through:

Night Court (2023) (Peacock) - "Just the Fax, Dan" (ep. #2.4). They
introduce the new clerk, Wyatt (I miss Flobert already!) - Nyambi Nyambi
is not even main cast yet (I guess that happens in #2.5). When a
ransomware hacker sabotages the court's internet, threatening to destroy
it unless Abby convicts in the sixth case of the night, Gergs springs
into action to track down the hacker, believing newbie Wyatt to be the
most likely suspect. This episode was silly, but slight.

soaps: GH - Fri's ep. They go overboard, by making Nina kind of a bitch
to everyone, though there is no doubt that Josslyn deserves to be raked
    - anyway, Nina reveals Dex's mission to "eliminate" Cyrus. Diane pledges
to get Alexis her law license back so Alexis can quit working for Nina.
Gregory realizes that it's time to retire from article writing with his
ALS progressing. Marshall gets the predictable answer from Dr. Kevin
Collins about his misdiagnosis years before. And in a wacky development, Heather Webber's insanity may be due to heavy metal poisoning from a
    defective hip replacement!

golf - At the start of Day 3 at the Players Championship at Sawgrass, it
looked like Wyndham Clark was cruising. But Xander Schauffele surged the
whole Day 3, progressively gaining on Clark. But the end of Day 3,
Schauffele had a one stroke lead!!
I think you would bet on Schauffele to win at this point, but Clark
still has a good shot, with Brian Harman lurking, and others like
Scottie Scheffler in theoretical striking distance.

Friday Night Sext Scandal (LMN) - "Inspired by real stories"... Blech!!
This went pretty much as you would expect, except for the dude's
mother refusing to let him confess to the police and helping him destroy evidence (a hard drive).
The lead kid (Anthony Timpano, who in a bit of feminist
highhandedness is credited second, despite clearly being the film's lead
and main focus) must be small! as he was barely taller than Devyn
Nekoda, and she's *tiny*!! (former ballet dancer).
Anyway, this is one of those flicks that will not be worth a
rewatch, as it's both unpleasant and depressing (and also unsatisfying,
as nobody really *pays* in the end...)

City, it was known as the "New England Street", and is same set that was featured in the Andy Hardy movies, starring Mickey Rooney., Elvis
Presley's "Jailhouse Rock", Frank Sinatra's "Some Came Running" and the
1970s musical fantasy "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band", starring
The Bee Gees, which was the last major film shot there. Much of the MGM
backlot had been demolished in 1974, and the remainder, including the
New England Street, was pulled down in 1978, soon after filming wrapped
    on "Sgt Pepper's".

In my opinion this was the best ever work shown on the Wonderful World
of Disney and while it was in the same historical era as the
Revolution was DEFINITELY in Kent in the UK. And showed in 1963?
1964? (I would have been 8 or 9 at the time and we watched The
Wonderful World of Disney faithfully in those years)

The Scarecrow was McGoohan's next Disney lead a year after he played
the male lead in The Three Lives of Tomasina which was another Disney
flick showed on the WWoD but totally different and starred a cat
(Tomasina - if you think of it as a feline Black Beauty you'd not be
far off) and remains one of those shows I'd love to see again if it
    were shown.

I remember this episode but there's not really a twist that I recall.
It was more like a melodrama about a girl who refused to talk while her adoptive parents fretted over her then she says I love you or something
like that. Or did some other telepath show up at the end but she stayed
with the adoptive family? Either way, there was no real twist.

    What Did You Watch?

    I watched:

Ghostbusters (4K disc) 1984 comedy about a team of scientists teaming up
to bust ghosts because busting makes them feel good. Holds up great.

Ghostbusters II (4K disc) 1989 sequel which answers the question when
things happen, someone has to deal with it, and He-Man is not available,
who you gonna call? Sure, it could have been better, but I still like
this one. And for anyone wondering whatever happened to Dana's boss the
museum curator, he became a summer camp counselor, then he changed his
name, went to law school and became a lawyer. And before he immigrated
to America, he slayed dragons in his home country.

Ghostbusters (4K disc) 2016 reboot which has a new team of Ghostbusters
forming to once again save New York from evil ghosts. I know there is a
very vocal group that loves to hate this movie. But I really like it.
I laughed at the jokes, and I really like the story, especially the
aspect of having the main villain start out as a twisted human
intentionally releasing ghosts on the city. And the movie just looks
nice too. I think this might have been my first time watching the movie
in 2D instead of 3D. I know the 3D disc is reference quality, but I
just didn't feel like wearing the 3D glasses. The 2D looked great but
the movie clearly screamed to be watched in 3D. There were so many
scenes where things were coming out of the screen. But in a very nice
touch the 2D version mimicked 3D by having a *lot* of the effects come
out of the scope framing (black bars) which made it look as if the shots
were coming out of the screen. It also had shifting aspect ratios which
    was another nice touch.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife (4K disc) 2021 sequel which continues the story
of the 4 original Ghostbusters. This one focuses on Egon's daughter and grandkids who move into his farm after his death. The grandkids don't
know he was a Ghostbuster but after finding his equipment they uncover a
plot by one of the Ghostbuster's old enemies to destroy the world and
only Egon was holding the door until his untimely death. This was my
first time watching this since seeing it in the theater. It holds up
very well. But and I remember thinking this when I saw it the first
time, it is pretty much a remake of the first movie. Sure, it's a
different cast (although all the originals except for Rick Moranis
return). But it hits all the same beats as the first movie. And it even
has the same score. In response to the 2016 movie, they went full on
nostalgia for this one. And they hit that nostalgia button hard! You
want more of the same, you're getting more of the same! Good thing for
them, I liked more of the same. :-)

This appears to be a live action show set in the American Revolution
based on Zorro, except he disguises himself as a scarecrow (and shoots
    people?).

In my opinion this was the best ever work shown on the Wonderful World
of Disney and while it was in the same historical era as the
Revolution was DEFINITELY in Kent in the UK. And showed in 1963?
1964? (I would have been 8 or 9 at the time and we watched The

The Scarecrow was McGoohan's next Disney lead a year after he played
the male lead in The Three Lives of Tomasina which was another Disney
flick showed on the WWoD but totally different and starred a cat

Disney+ claimed they put all that stuff up to get us to get long-term subscriptions but they were lying and then hit us with no refunds. So far
none of the world of Disney stuff is available as such and almost nothing that’s in 4:3 is available. The first exception was steamboat Willy,
although they put crap on the sides anyway, and the first real exception
was the first two seasons of the Zorro series. Season three, which aired on world of Disney, is nowhere to be found except on DVD. All that vault
Disney stuff which is what we used to get the service for is being withheld
    as well.

Scarecrow was put out on a special edition treasures DVD, and for some
bizarre reason they only printed a handful of them, which were sold out instantly, and then commanded ridiculously high prices on the secondary
market. I don’t understand why this does Disney any good.

Tomasina is available on the gray in 856x480 although I have no idea what
    the source is

True.  See Superman: The Movie for an example of this.  You get Marlon Brandon, then Gene Hackman, then the director, then the title card, then finally Christopher Reeve.

The Twilight Zone S4E03 'Valley of the Shadow' - DVR
A reporter (Ed Nelson) visits a town whose inhabitants can manipulate

A reporter stumbles into a peaceful town where miracles seem to occur

Trivia: James Doohan (Mr. Johnson) is one of 4 regular Star Trek
(1966) actors to have been in The Twilight Zone.

I did not know that.  Although I don't really remember this episode.

Dues Ex Machina ending. The whole "keep him captive" schtick was a test
and when he failed it they just wiped his memory or turned time back or something like that and sent him on his way.

     William Shatner was in

Nimoy was in A Quality of Mercy (1961), and George Takei in The
    Encounter (1964).
David Opatoshu (Mr. Dorn) also played the head of another place with
strange secrets; in A Taste of Armageddon (1967) he was Anan 7, head

Parents raise their daughter (Ann Jillian) without verbal
communication in order to fully develop her telepathic powers.  (Comcast) >> The orphaned daughter of telepathic parents must learn to speak and
deal with a world she cannot communicate in.  (IMDb)
Trivia: The main street that Ilsa runs across is the same one used in
I Sing the Body Electric (1962). Located on the MGM backlot in Culver
City, it was known as the "New England Street", and is same set that
was featured in the Andy Hardy movies, starring Mickey Rooney., Elvis
Presley's "Jailhouse Rock", Frank Sinatra's "Some Came Running" and
the 1970s musical fantasy "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band",
starring The Bee Gees, which was the last major film shot there. Much
of the MGM backlot had been demolished in 1974, and the remainder,
including the New England Street, was pulled down in 1978, soon after
    filming wrapped on "Sgt Pepper's".

I remember this episode but there's not really a twist that I recall. It
was more like a melodrama about a girl who refused to talk while her
adoptive parents fretted over her then she says I love you or something
like that.  Or did some other telepath show up at the end but she stayed with the adoptive family?  Either way, there was no real twist.

She says "My name is Ilsie". Another couple that was part of the
compact trying to train their kids to be telepathic do show up near the
end but agree to leave the kid with the unofficial adoptive parents
because they actually treated her like a daughter rather than an
experiment like her biological parents did. Also the teacher in the
local school had been a subject of similar training by her father and
was determined to break Ilsie's refusal to speak.

But yes, there really wasn't a typical Twilight Zone supernatural twist.

Well, one good thing about working through all these TZ episode, my
DVR is down to below 50% full.  :P

Sure, it could have been better, but I still like
this one.  And for anyone wondering whatever happened to Dana's boss the museum curator, he became a summer camp counselor, then he changed his
name, went to law school and became a lawyer.  And before he immigrated
to America, he slayed dragons in his home country.

Ghostbusters (4K disc) 2016 reboot which has a new team of Ghostbusters forming to once again save New York from evil ghosts. I know there is a
very vocal group that loves to hate this movie.  But I really like it. I laughed at the jokes, and I really like the story, especially the aspect
of having the main villain start out as a twisted human intentionally releasing ghosts on the city.  And the movie just looks nice too.  I
think this might have been my first time watching the movie in 2D
instead of 3D.  I know the 3D disc is reference quality, but I just
didn't feel like wearing the 3D glasses.  The 2D looked great but the
movie clearly screamed to be watched in 3D.  There were so many scenes
where things were coming out of the screen.  But in a very nice touch
the 2D version mimicked 3D by having a *lot* of the effects come out of
the scope framing (black bars) which made it look as if the shots were
coming out of the screen.  It also had shifting aspect ratios which was another nice touch.

In response to the 2016 movie, they went full on nostalgia for this one.  And they hit that nostalgia button hard!  You
want more of the same, you're getting more of the same!  Good thing for them, I liked more of the same.  :-)

I have 4 1/2 months before I take vacation.  I'm about to star thinking

It looks like this summer will be easy. I might hit Reno, but I won't
    likely be doing much else.

    Still, I got through:

Night Court (2023) (Peacock) - "Just the Fax, Dan" (ep. #2.4). They
introduce the new clerk, Wyatt (I miss Flobert already!)

Yeah, the other guy was better.  But I guess it was his choice to leave.

No, I actually so far prefer Wyatt the new guy to Neil (Kapil Talwalkar)
from season #1 - they saddled Neil with too much baggage as a character,
so it's good they decided to dump him.

Flobert was the "temp clerk" at the beginning of season #2. But
Flobert's not gone - he actually shows up again in ep. #2.5...

    - Nyambi Nyambi
is not even main cast yet (I guess that happens in #2.5). When a
ransomware hacker sabotages the court's internet, threatening to
destroy it unless Abby convicts in the sixth case of the night, Gergs
springs into action to track down the hacker, believing newbie Wyatt
to be the most likely suspect. This episode was silly, but slight.

one of them, military, or civilian, right down to the women and children,
are heartless, sadistic, murdering bastards, and that we should have gone
back and dropped an atomic bomb once we had them and sterilized their
entire country. Which was interesting in a day when they usually make the
    bad guys good guys.

Also, it’s 1945 and they couldn’t spend the money to modify one of their lousy CGI model airplanes to be a Bee One Seven Gee.

    THE THUNDERMANS

And then there’s this which I just heard of for the first time. They’re advertising the snot out of it because they just released a reunion movie
from this 2013 TV series that’s a complete rip off and intended replacement for The Wizards of Waverly Place. The parents and especially the father
are indistinguishable from the earlier and vastly superior show. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything as aggressively stupid and unfunny. And I’ve definitely never heard a worse or more intrusive laugh track. I watched the original pilot episode and about five minutes of the new movie, which is as much as I could stand. it has one redeeming feature and that’s that the
lead actress is really cute. But not even close to cute enough.

    AMERIGEDDON (2016)

If this was a lot better, it might be bad enough to be an asylum film. Evil terrorists shut down the power grid in the USA. We know this because people in their lit homes are watching the news broadcast from the completely electrified studios. A bunch of people who don’t even pretend to be actors, directed in their dialogue by the son of Chuck Norris. Just awful.

    No asteroids heading to Earth?

    IRON CHEF

The original series; episodes from season five. I kept flipping away
because they were eating horrible stuff and saying stupid things about it. Turtle soup made in the turtles own shell (upside down). Tuna, cooked in peanut oil and moon salt, which is salt that is only harvested underwater during the full moon, and as the pretty actress judge tells us, has magical powers. And of course, whole octopus.

    THE BLACKOUT - INVASION EARTH

A bunch of episodes of a series strung together into a “movie” where everything gets killed, except for a big radius, that includes a hunk of Russia and the Ukraine. Completely uninteresting.

I saw this a few years ago. At least when I watched it, it was
presented as a regular movie. I wonder if you saw a different cut. I
don't remember it at all, but apparently I liked it at the time. Late
next year I plan to watch a bunch of Russian sci-fi movies and this will
be one of them. I'll see if it holds up on second viewing.

ALEXANDER: THE MAKING OF A GOD
    THE BOY KING

Well, I thought this was actually going to be some sort of scripted
adventure show, but it turned out to be one of those phony documentaries
with phony experts, just spewing nonsense. Not why I quit the Netflix but
if I had the Netflix, I’d quit it now.

    THE SILENT SERVICE

Submarine movie with no English audio track. Quit quickly.

MASTERS OF THE AIR Part Nine

    The finale.

I may get to this eventually.

I was feeling so proud of myself when I got my DVR down to 60% and so
far it's been hovering just under 65% give or take as of late.

I could get it lower since I have a *bunch* of movies on there I'm
probably never going to watch. But I refuse to delete because maybe one
    day I will.

All that’s left on mine is the four episodes of Bonanza with Guy Williams, which I’ve seen but it’s been a long time. But they just showed up on the fire stick.

Now all the DVR is doing is grabbing new stuff like NCIS and Blue Bloods
and tracker that I have to watch delayed on the fire stick.

I like the place but… Pleasant? Summer, when it’s 95°F and 95% humidity. We
sat in the laundromat putting dimes in the dryer trying to get our towels
dry for hours until somebody explained that it would never ever ever
happen. All you could ever have were hot wet towels.

A friend of mine was smarter and they vacation in Hawaii for Christmas/New Year’s when they have big fireworks displays.

Fortunately for me, I only have the good memories. If you can call the
vague blurs memories. Although I do remember the kid who lived across
the street had a bunch of Star Wars action figures. As far as the
weather goes, I just remember it always being nice. Or raining and then

I was a teenager every time I was there. My dad built the Kuilima resort
(now the Turtle Bay Hilton) on the North Shore and used to commute (!) From Phoenix.

I did learn to use chopsticks there and remain proficient to this day. :-)
And I have my souvenir coconut still. And some very high-quality Hawaiian shirts that don’t even come close to fitting me anymore.

But I think mostly I wanted to get home to my dog and my girlfriend (in
    that order). :-)

Glad your memories are good ones!

    https://www.nme.com/news/tv/how-is-masters-of-the-air-connected-to-band-of-brothers-3575709

“Masters Of The Air is pitched as a companion series to 2001’s Band Of Brothers and 2010’s The Pacific. One of the key reasons is due to those involved behind the camera, with all three shows produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

All three shows also tackle the subject of World War II from different US regiments. Band Of Brothers focuses on the Easy Company parachute infantry regiment and its participation in the Western Front through Europe. The Pacific, meanwhile, follows the Marine Corp’s actions in the Pacific War, while Masters Of The Air jumps into the skies to chart the 100th Bomb Group unit’s bombing raids over Germany and other territories.”

I bet I can name an expensive leftist, whose hot bed you’d like to live in!

I've tried that. It's fun for a while but then the sheer inanity of it all becomes too much to bear.
