Federal Justice Minister Arif Verani gives a longish (9 minute)
interview to journalist Mercedes Stephenson defending the provisions in
the new Online Harms Act that is currently before Parliament.

I wasn't born yesterday so I didn't derive a lot of comfort from his
assurances that this legislation wouldn't be abused. Politicians ALWAYS
write legislation full of weasel words that they and the courts can
interpret in any way that's convenient. This government in particular
has given us ample reason to doubt their ethics and their desire to be moderate. They are "progressive" through and through and every Canadian remembers Trudeau denouncing the Freedom Convoy and anyone supporting
them as having "unacceptable views". The invocation of the Emergencies
Act and the freezing of bank accounts of people who donated as little
as $10 to the Freedom Convoy give us ample evidence that the Liberals
are not moderate or tolerant of views that differ from their own.

That easily could have included me as my wife was going to make a
contribution but in the end simply didn't get around to it. She was
never planning on donating more than $10-20 in any case.

My Carleton graduate daughter (Rhino knows Carleton University is in
Ottawa - the rest of you probably don't) gave us a running commentary
o specifically where the truckers were honking their horns which was
most of downtown Ottawa and immediately adjacent extremely expensive residential areas.

I personally the convoy would have done a lot better parking outside
22 Sussex Drive as the prime minister's residence is well away from
    downtown but...
