• TAN: The TUBI! (app)

    From Ian J. Ball@21:1/5 to All on Sat Mar 2 10:11:33 2024
Pluto TV recently "refreshed" the look of their app. Not sure it was
necessary. But I don't hate it.

Tubi has now done the same. This time, I *hate* it.

They've gone from the clean reddish thin logo font on black background
to a gaudy horrible yellow "fat" logo font on purple background... Ugh.

About the only good thing I can say about this - now that (formerly HBO)
Max abandoned purple for their color, Tubi is now the only streaming app
in purple, so at least it's distinctive.

I also now hate their opening animation (and sound) - the former one was memorable, but this one is just trite and annoying.

Inside the app, the background is now purple instead of black. *Hate* it.

On my Sony TV version of the app, the 'You Might Also Like'
recommendations have completely disappeared - no way to find a follow-up
film or somewhat relatedly-themed film in I'm interested. (Maybe a
    rollout glitch?)

Luckily, the Apple TV box app still has the 'You Might Also Like' recommendations, though now with the purple background I hate.

Otherwise, I think the app is little changed - I still get 16 (it used
to be 8 until several months ago) 'Featured' selections at the top, and
then 40 selections under categories like 'Recommended' and 'Leaving Soon'.

I have no idea why the marketing "geniuses" feel the need to do these "refreshes" – if it's not "broke", why are you "fixing" it?!!

You are misspelling it. It now ends with the lowercase I but the dot goes between the T and the U.

No, it’s a dot, like lifetimes big red period.

When you launch the app, you get a prolonged animation with it flying
around. And the dot is missing from the i. In the previous version of the logo, the dot landed on the i at the end of the animation.

Of course, maybe it used to be the i and now it’s the crossbar from the t, but that would be even stupider.
