If it is going away, I hope that means that my Fire tablet
will let me delete the Freevee app and free up the gobs of
room it takes up. I've got better things to fill that

    You ask, we deliver.

    https://xdaforums.com/t/windows-linux-tool-fire-toolbox-v33-1.3889604/

The tool works great and allows you to customize what apps are on the
tablet. You can even go to only Google apps if that is your wish.

All for the amazingly low price of $0.

Thanks, Shawn, I think you posted that for me before,
so I checked it out then. The size of the "fix" is
more than my dialup connection can download. :(

I had found another way to root the Fire, but it required
both a huge file be downloaded AND it was only for
Win7 "or better" (there isn't any Win past XP that
is "better" IMHO, and none better than a Linux distro).

I may try to download the link if/when I get back down
to the Big City and have time to stop by the library
there, then see if I can get it to give me the control
over my own device that I'm used to.

Good luck. I can testify to the program working well and giving you
complete control over your tablet. You can remove anything (even
things you shouldn't) but it does a good job of informing you what
each application does and lets you know which are system related and
    as such shouldn't be removed.

They'll just move it back to prime. Unless you pay more to remove them,
Prime is the same as freevee now that they've added ads.

    dialup.

Yes. I have trouble downloading much of anything over
3MB without a LOT of patience and manipulations.

My ISP limits connection time to 5 hours at a go, but
I rarely can manage much over an hour at a time without
speed degradation or lockups. Some of that is due to
noise on my telephone line, but other problems include
problems with servers sending data too fast for my
    connection to handle.

I had found another way to root the Fire, but it required
both a huge file be downloaded AND it was only for

Good to know that it will be worth the effort.

I mostly want to get rid of about half the standard
ammy-supplied apps (stuff for kids, Prime Video, and
others I'll never use). They take up a LOT of room
that is better used for what I actually bought the
    Fire to do: BOOKS!

Plans now have me doing an errand and stock-up trip the
middle of next month, so I hope to get through the necessary
parts of the excursion with enough time for that library
stop. The library limits logins to one hour connection
time, but that should be plenty to grab what I need and
    hit the road again.

    Nyssa, who is digitally deprived
    Yep, that's me.

    Nyssa, who is digitally deprived

Better than Ian, who is digitally depraved.

    :)

    Aw, he isn't *that* bad!

Nyssa, who is willing to give Ian the benefit of
the doubt, although questions some of his viewing
    preferences

Anim would argue that it is those viewing preferences that
    _make_ him
    depraved. ;)

What's got me worried is that I've got a neighbor with
    similar viewing habits.

Nyssa, who is keeping an eye on that one, just in case

If it is going away, I hope that means that my Fire
tablet will let me delete the Freevee app and free up
the gobs of room it takes up. I've got better things
to fill that space with. :P~~~~~~~

    You ask, we deliver.

    https://xdaforums.com/t/windows-linux-tool-fire-toolbox-
    v33-1.3889604/

The tool works great and allows you to customize what
apps are on the tablet. You can even go to only Google
apps if that is your wish.

All for the amazingly low price of $0.

Thanks, Shawn, I think you posted that for me before,
so I checked it out then. The size of the "fix" is
more than my dialup connection can download. :(

I had found another way to root the Fire, but it
required both a huge file be downloaded AND it was only
for Win7 "or better" (there isn't any Win past XP that
is "better" IMHO, and none better than a Linux distro).

I may try to download the link if/when I get back down
to the Big City and have time to stop by the library
there, then see if I can get it to give me the control
over my own device that I'm used to.

Just don't keep an eye on that one by peeking thru their windows.
