• Donnie Wahlberg trying to uncancel Blue Bloods

From Rhino@21:1/5 to All on Sat Feb 17 19:37:01 2024
I just saw this story which says Donnie Wahlberg is trying to get CBS
    to "uncancel" Blue Bloods:

    https://www.monstersandcritics.com/tv/donnie-wahlberg-and-jenny-mccarthy-kick-off-savebluebloods-trend-after-blue-bloods-final-season-premiere/

Has anyone heard WHY it is being cancelled? I had assumed the cast,
or at least Tom Selleck, were ready to move on so the network cancelled
it but this article implies that the cast are game to continue and are confident the writers still have more episodes in them.

The show has been getting cheaper and cheaper looking every season.
Hardly any extras and if there's a guest star, you know he did the crime because there's no one else to pick from.

I agree that the show is long past its prime and I think it is overdue
to end. I see it mostly as an issue of low budgets and sloppy
writing. But it's a likable cast - for the most part - and I would
probably keep watching if they made a major effort to sharpen up the
writing and loosen the purse strings enough to make the show stronger.
I could even stand it if, say, Selleck and his character retired and a
new chief - who would probably have to be one of the Reagans -
succeeded him. But I suppose Selleck remains the main draw so that
might be tricky to pull off without losing the audience.

It only got renewed in the first place if they agreed to slash the budget
like crazy, which meant slashing the cast like crazy. It’s like what CW
did with Superman and lame ass.

Having Jenny McCarthy on your side, ought to make you scream “get off my side“

Probably a result of pay increases for the main cast. I imagine it's a lot after 14yrs. It's a show that's far from cheap to produce but it looks
cheap because there's no money for anything else.

I was just posting that after 14yrs, I imagine the raises for the main cast have gotten pretty damned big. It's too bad Wahlberg can't find another property like Boomtown which was a way better show but didnt last.

I remember reading an article a while back that said all (or most) of
the cast - possibly not Selleck - agreed to take a 25% pay CUT to
ensure the renewal for either Season 13 or 14.

That doesn't surprise me. After being on the air for so long, I'm sure the main cast has gotten a lot of raises. Especially Selleck.
