Yeah, don't forget the guy that's the diametric opposite of what you're
talking about. That's literally the second stupidest thing you ever
posted, the first being the time you claimed to have literally drove

If I had to actually stick to topic, I might mention Damian Lewis.  One
of the best detective shows "Life".  Drove a nice Maserati, too...

2007 to 2009.  Stellar cast: Sarah Shahi, Adam Arkin, Robin Weigert (Deadwood), Donal Logue (everything), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men),
Michael Cudlitz, Garret Dillahunt, Titus Welliver, and Gabrielle Union.

Fantastic cast, I'll seek it out.

Not a cop as such, but he does investigate crimes: Grantchester's Rev.
Will Davenport comes from a rich family, but he decided to become a

I've heard of it but never saw it. I've never read an explanation of
where the money came from. My guess is that Bat Masterson invented off
shore holdings and, thanks to the magic of compounding interest over the decades, he had access to this vast fortune.

It’s a throwaway line, maybe in the pilot which has a lot of exposition
dump where they say he inherited it. No details.

There is another episode where they imply and or infer that he is a
millionaire but only has the $1 million. It’s hard to imagine there was a
    day when you could have a mansion and a Rolls-Royce, and a full-time man servant/chauffeurfor $1 million.

    Yep, mid-century.

A >LOT< more recently than that. I bought my current home in 1990 for
    $258k - it's now assessed for taxes at $ 1.7M

Now to be sure my place is no mansion but my parents bought a house in
the late 70s for $185k and sold it in 1995-2000 for $490k. It's
currently assessed at $ 2.8M (or was 2 years ago when I last checked)

Similarly my grandparents bought in the late 40s for around $45k and
the property (it was torn down and rebuilt) at $ 3.8m today. (For
Rhino's benefit that house was in Point Grey in Vancouver about 1 mile
from the UBC gates) (I don't expect him to know the area in detail but
rather that it's one of the more expensive areas in Vancouver now
though it wasn't in the post WW2 era.)

Haven't priced Rolls lately but I'd guess in the $200-300k. I have no
idea what "hired help" go for these days though my brother and sister
in law had nannies till the oldest of their kids was 12 or so. I
suspect a butler and chauffeur would be rather more than that.
