• [OT] Ukraine wants Canadian rockets due to be destroyed but Ottawa drag

Ukraine, which is increasingly desperate for weapons and ammunition in
the light of the linkage between defense and the border in the US that
is holding up that military aid, is turning to friendly countries for
    their discards.

Canada has a supply of Canadian-made CRV7 rockets that hit their
end-of-life in 2000 which Ukraine would love to have. They are in a
depot in Saskatchewan waiting to be destroyed. You'd think the
government would be grateful to get rid of them and avoid the cost of destroying them (or at least some of that cost) but you'd be wrong. The Canadian government does not want to help, despite Trudeau's assurances
that we were with Ukraine until the end.

I get that money is being spent on building a demolition facility for
these munitions so we probably can't just walk away from that contract.
But could we repurpose what is being built into something else, like
temporary housing for those who are struggling to find a place to stay?
What would it cost to just pay off the contract and let the
    Ukrainians have the rockets?

As for the safety aspects, we obviously need to let the experts figure
that out. If the Ukrainians really can transport those rockets to
Ukraine safely, then we should let them.

By the same token, the Australians burying those old helicopters rather
than giving them to Ukraine is some truly shameful shit unless there's
more to this that I don't know about, like that requiring Australia
spending gazillions of dollars to get them flight-worthy again first.
