Nikki Haley requests Secret Service protection after growing threats on campaign, report says
Today 11:11 am JST 0 Comment
    WASHINGTON

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has requested Secret Service protection after receiving a growing number of threats during her 2024 presidential campaign, according to a report published Monday.

Haley told The Wall Street Journal while campaigning in South Carolina that
    she had made the request.

“We’ve had multiple issues,” she said. “It’s not going to stop me from doing what I need to do.”

Neither Haley's campaign nor the Secret Service responded to requests for comment.

Both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump receive Secret Service protection. The Secret Service protects the president and vice president as well as their families along with some senior government officials. It is also authorized to provide protection to major party presidential candidates, an authority granted after the assassination of
    Robert F. Kennedy in 1968.

Haley is the last major challenger to Trump in the Republican primary race.
She is focusing on South Carolina's Feb. 24 primary as an opportunity to demonstrate momentum against Trump, though she is also traveling the country
to attend fundraisers and is scheduled to appear at a rally in California on Wednesday.

If Haley wants or needs protection, her campaign can pay for it. Why
should we taxpayers be stuck with her security bills?

    No.

    (1) The president can authorize protection of anyone via executive order
but he can't prohibit protection if it's otherwise authorized.

    (2) Authorization of USSS protection for major presidential candidates
is decided by a committee consisting of the Secretary of Homeland
Security, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the minority
leader of the House of Representatives, the majority and minority
leaders of the Senate, and one additional member selected by the other
    members of the committee.

If Haley wants or needs protection, her campaign can pay for it. Why
should we taxpayers be stuck with her security bills?

Because after Sirhan Sirhan blew Robert Kennedy's brains out, the U.S. government decided it was better to spend a few bucks than let assassins
    change the course of history.

The problem comes when candidates only want USSS protection for the
optics, to make them look 'presidential'.

That's why Obama was so insistent that he needed protection so early on
in his first campaign. He and his staff were sick of showing up to
events in a rented minivan while Hillary, as a former first lady, rolled
up in a full USSS motorcade with police escort. He was losing the war of
optics so his campaign claimed he was under "unique threat" being the
first major black candidate, knowing no one would dare say no to that.

It was really just a lie, though. Obama didn't receive any more total
threats or credible threats than other presidential candidates had
received at that point in their respective runs.

This is probably the case here. SS protection makes her
    seem more important.

However, do NOT lose Haley. The Dems have lined up so many
kangaroo courts against Trump that there's no way he can
be the next POTUS. This means a well-known, well-liked,
backup candidate has to be ready on short notice. That'd
    be Haley.

So quit the magical thinking about Trump. He's screwed
six ways to Sunday. If the GOP wants to win then it has
to get REAL because the Dems sure are.

Hate to tell Swill this, but the SS does NOT have to protect Presidential candidates and there is no law that says they have to.

Candidates can request it, and the SS can tell them to pound sand. They may CHOSE to do so if there is a clear existential threat but even that is determined by the SS.

I don't suffer fools gladly. The simple fact is that under law she can apply for and may
be entitled to SS protection. IT'S THE LAW. Imo it's a good one. But then I remember
watching Bobby Kennedy being shot and lying in a puddle of blood.

No, you don't remember watching that, you fucking liar, because it wasn't televised. It occurred in a narrow passageway near the Ambassador Hotel kitchen and no TV cameras were present. CBS and ABC had already ended their television coverage, anyway — the shooting occurred at 12:15am PDT.

    WASHINGTON

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has requested Secret Service protection after receiving a growing number of threats during her 2024 presidential campaign, according to a report published Monday.

Haley told The Wall Street Journal while campaigning in South Carolina that she had made the request.

“We’ve had multiple issues,” she said. “It’s not going to stop me from doing
    what I need to do.”

Neither Haley's campaign nor the Secret Service responded to requests for comment.

Both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump receive Secret Service protection. The Secret Service protects the president and vice president as well as their families along with some senior government officials. It is also authorized to provide protection to major party presidential candidates, an authority granted after the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy in 1968.

Haley is the last major challenger to Trump in the Republican primary race. She is focusing on South Carolina's Feb. 24 primary as an opportunity to demonstrate momentum against Trump, though she is also traveling the country to attend fundraisers and is scheduled to appear at a rally in California on Wednesday.

No, you're the moron who thinks we should all pay significant bucks to

Either they can handle their own security, or they can stay out.

It's hard to believe Nikki Haley isn't already receiving Secret Service
protection, did Trump fuck that up too by executive order when he was
    prez?

If Haley wants or needs protection, her campaign can pay for it. Why
should we taxpayers be stuck with her security bills?

Because after Sirhan Sirhan blew Robert Kennedy's brains out, the U.S. government decided it was better to spend a few bucks than let assassins change the course of history.

The problem comes when candidates only want USSS protection for the
optics, to make them look 'presidential'.

That's why Obama was so insistent that he needed protection so early on
    in his first campaign.

A white supremacist ignoring the concept of racism? What are the odds?

He and his staff were sick of showing up to
events in a rented minivan while Hillary, as a former first lady, rolled
up in a full USSS motorcade with police escort. He was losing the war of optics so his campaign claimed he was under "unique threat" being the
first major black candidate, knowing no one would dare say no to that.

It was really just a lie, though. Obama didn't receive any more total
threats or credible threats than other presidential candidates had
received at that point in their respective runs.
