• [OT] BC cabinet minister resigns over remarks about Palestine and other

A BC cabinet minister, who happens to be Jewish, has resigned due to
the backlash against her as a result of remarks that Palestinians and indigenous people found offensive.

I am confused. According to the article: ======================================================================
Robinson has been under fire for comments she made during an online
discussion Jan. 30 where she said Israel was founded on “a crappy piece
of land with nothing on it.” =======================================================================

It sounds to me like she was saying that it was unfortunate that Jews
chose to found Israel in mandate Palestine because it was so desolate,
as it appears to be in all the footage I've ever seen of it. This seems
like a criticism of JEWS, not the Arabs who also lived there. Yet the Palestinians seem to be the ones taking grave offense here.

Robinson is a member of the NDP (New Democratic Party), the socialist
party which is currently ruling BC. It's NOT surprising that they would
cave to activists of the Palestinian and indigenous groups. I expect
Horny Goat can give us more insight on whether this really enraged the
people of BC in general or just a few of the louder activists.

That's what she gets for being NDP. She gets *no* sympathy from me!

It sounds like a criticism of the LAND and not any peoples.

The critical mistake she made was referring to pre-1947 Palestine as
"a crappy piece of land" which created outrage. Am not familiar enough
to know what she said that offended the Indians.

This picture was "above the fold" and about that size on page 1 of my
    morning paper.

No question it wouldn't have helped a provincial government one year
from an election. (I don't support that party provincially so would be
happy to see them go but right now it's a case of who would replace
them as the opposition is divided)
