the video clip. It sounds like he is well in the lead in the
Presidential race which would be completely unprecedented in American
political history. Surely there's no real chance he could be elected??

It's not temporary, he's sounded like that for about a year or so, when
the news started covering him. I think his throat was damaged somehow,
don't know enough to speculate further.

I heard him at a college presentation 15 years ago [a]
and he had the same issue.

The presenter (again, this was 15 yrs ago) advised
the audience he had long term laryngitis.

This has since been clarified as "spasmodic dysphonia".

I still think Carter should have strangled the speechwriter who gave
him the "Moral Equivalent of War" speech which was actually an
extremely good discussion of the need for American energy self
