• [OT] What's up with RFK Jr?

From Rhino@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jan 31 23:01:36 2024
I just watched this video and was struck by how odd his voice is. Is
this how he normally sounds or is he dealing with some kind of
    temporary ailment like laryngitis?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rtc6PRKG47o

Also, for what it's worth, I was astounded at the numbers presented in
the video clip. It sounds like he is well in the lead in the
Presidential race which would be completely unprecedented in American
political history. Surely there's no real chance he could be elected??

It's not temporary, he's sounded like that for about a year or so, when
the news started covering him. I think his throat was damaged somehow,
don't know enough to speculate further.

    No there's not.

He's sounded like that for close to two years. I have no idea what
    caused it.

How could e be in the lead?

He ranges from making really good points to being delusional. No, I
don't think he should be president.

I heard him at a college presentation 15 years ago [a]
and he had the same issue.

The presenter (again, this was 15 yrs ago) advised
the audience he had long term laryngitis.

This has since been clarified as "spasmodic dysphonia".

Whatever it is it fits in well with him being a basket case.

Democrats have had to put up with a lot of crap over the Kennedys ever
since Teddy ran off the rails back in '68.

Caroline is about the only one left I have a favorable opinion of.

'80 was worse. I don't think there was a chance in hell of Carter
being re-elected, but Teddy sure didn't help matters.

Dear gawd. Jimmy Carter's presidency consisted of brief moments of
brilliance and accomplishment -- the Camp David accords, major weapons
systems purchases for the Pentagon that served the military well in the
'80s unlike what Reagan bought -- with significant moments of weakness
and failure and unmitigated evil -- Carter's hatred of cities, ending
federal operating support for public transportation and ruining Amtrak,
the failed hostage rescue (which did lead to the Pentagon re-evaluating
special forces and making long-needed reforms), and the decision that
will pay dividends forever and ever letting Zbigniew Brzezinski screw
around in Afghanistan to tempt the Soviets to invade.

Terrible terrible president who never should have been elected in the
first place, but Americans were still punishing the Republicans for
Nixon's presidency in 1976 and weren't going to elect Ford. And Ronald
Reagan didn't help him that year.

I still think Carter should have strangled the speechwriter who gave
him the "Moral Equivalent of War" speech which was actually an
extremely good discussion of the need for American energy self
sufficiency but whose effect was ruined by the most unfortunate choice
of acronym in US political history!

He was mocked continuously by pundits, most of all by Ronald Reagan in
the 1980 election though to be sure the Iranian seizure of the US
embassy in Teheran (vandalized this past week with pro-HAMAS slogans)
finally drove the nail in his re-election chances.

Anybody interested can review the speech at:
