His website allegedly targeted people who wanted to commit suicide - I
say allegedly because I haven't seen it - and serving that market may
well have been his goal. However, I have heard no evidence that he
wanted any of these people to die. He may have been a guy who just
wanted to make a buck in a rather controversial way. He may even have
the same sort of "humanitarian" impulses that supposedly motivate our
MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) legislation.
My understanding is that it had been going on on a 'wink wink nudge
nudge' basis with dementia patients for awhile and that hospital staff
were looking for a legal shield. Both my brother and I are convinced
that's what happened with my father who frankly in his final dementia
days was more than a bit of an a******. No question he was a major
PITA to the care home staff, particularly a certain intern.
It seems like a BIG stretch to turn that into a first degree murder
charge.
Agreed - this is the reason why the fight against fentanyl precursors
is so treacherous - because there ARE unusual and legal things one can
use these chemicals for - and that because China is exporting
literally tons of fentanyl precursors (mostly to the drug gangs in
Mexico) they are claiming they are restricting illegal drugs (which is
true) while exporting precursors in vastly greater numbers. (also
true)
