How can there be a "border security deal" with a Biden Administration that
just fought all the way to the Supreme Court to stop border security?

Why hasn't Biden been impeached for the fourth or fifth time?

The Texas National Guard has defied the SCOTUS ruling and installed more
razor wire and barriers at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas.

The standoff with the TX National Guard is a lose-lose for the Biden White >> House.

Either they send troops down to remove the barriers and wires, showing
America that they'll physically fight other Americans in uniform to make it >> easier for illegals to get in.

Or they let Texas continue to provide the public with visuals of what
actual border security and enforcement looks like.

Yeah? It would have been awfully nice if they'd plucked that drowning
woman and children out of the Rio Grande, since they've taken over
patrols and they were separated by the fence. And they can come to
Chicago to pick up everyone they sent here.

I'm just now reading about the immigration "deal" they've put forward and are lambasting the Republicans for rejecting because they want the issue available to run against Biden. It's appalling.

This "deal" allows 5,000-8,500 illegals to cross per day before DHS starts turning people back.

    8,500 x 365 = 3,102,500 illegals per year.

This is on top of the 8 million illegals who have already crossed under
    Biden.

This is simply absurd. If DHS can enforce border security after 8,500 illegals cross per day, it can do enforcement after 1 illegal crosses.

Isn't it interesting that the Left will support every group from anywhere in the world in its quest for a separate state (Palestine, Northern Ireland, Donetsk, Tibet) yet they have fits of outrage any time a U.S. state like Texas asserts even the smallest amount of autonomy in its own self-interest.

I'm not sure why everyone treats that poem as the fundamental law of the
land. Someone jotted down their own thoughts on the Statue of Liberty
and we're all supposed to adopt them as our own as some kind of national
    duty?

As for how I feel about it-- I feel that there's an implied caveat that
says, "As long as they stand in line and complete the legal process for
entry" as people were indeed doing back in the day when the statue was dedicated and the poem appended to it.

I don't see either that poem (or U.S. tradition or policy) as an
endorsement of the idea of millions of people overrunning our borders en
masse without consequence or that the U.S. is not morally allowed to
have borders at all in the first place.

They came to America and immediately went to work as they expected to
provide for themselves. They didn't all stay in New York but spread around
the country. No one put them up indefinitely in lobbies of police stations
nor temporary shelter or housing. They fairly quickly found housing for themselves. In the 19th century, they were homesteaders into Great Plains

I can't even imagine what the moral argument for the Chinese Exclusion

Amusingly, Texas was settled by immigrants -- Americans -- upon

there. The Americans weren't stupid and settled far far away from places
    they'd encounter hostile Indians.

I hear the siren call of ice cream.

    [sigh]

Okay, name your flavor. I'll see if I can flag
down a passing drone to send it your way before
    your summer begins next week.

Nyssa, who hasn't got any ice cream on hand at the

I finished off a tub of blueberry cobbler last
    night.

Yeah, just rub it in whydontcha.

I have yet to find any kind of blueberry ice cream
around here...unless I make it myself.

I've got almost three cups of blueberries in the
freezer, so I might have to motivate myself to
making some homemade assuming I can find the heavy
cream for less than an extortionary price. (Which is
unlikely considering the monopolistic grocery chain
    we're stuck with here.)

Nyssa, who is hoping that anim's choice of ice cream
is something a bit more easy to find

    Häagen-Dazs macadamia nut brittle

    You have good taste.

Nyssa, who is still looking for rainbow sherbet

Dozens of varieties available here, including national
brands and store brands and giant tubs of the stuff and
hundred dollar bottles of some sort of compound used in
    the making of it.

Yikes! I tend to stick to making Philadelphia style
ice creams that don't use eggs. Although I rarely make
my own anymore due to the inflated price of heavy
cream here. And I certainly use no artificial compounds!
    Ick!

I only buy from a limited number of national brands
when they're on sale. Most of the other brands "offered"
in the local chain are what I'd consider off-brands
with lots of artificial gunk added.

Stay away from a brand called Blue Ribbon. It's the
worst I've ever had, so of course the local chain
puts it on sale most often. It ain't worth the price
    even on sale. Bleah!

Nyssa, who is somewhat of an ice cream snob and will
    not accept the lesser offerings

I go to a local place that makes their stuff by hand. They
have all sorts of unique flavors. Hence my blueberry
    cobbler.

    Lucky you!

Back in the day when I lived in someplace more civilized
than I currently do, there were a couple of local dairies
that made ice cream in limited amounts.

My favorite flavor from one of those was their Apple
    Strudel ice cream. Super yum!

Yeah, my place does apple pie ice cream. I alternate that with the
    blueberry.

    NOT TV RELATED.

Ben and Jerry's used to have a Blueberry ice cream that
was a seasonal flavor only available in late summer.

Blue Bell down in Texas did a blueberry for about a year, then
    discontinued it forever. :-(

as the fundamental law of the
land. Someone jotted down their own thoughts on the Statue of Liberty
and we're all supposed to adopt them as our own as some kind of national duty?

As for how I feel about it-- I feel that there's an implied caveat that
says, "As long as they stand in line and complete the legal process for entry" as people were indeed doing back in the day when the statue was dedicated and the poem appended to it.

I don't see either that poem (or U.S. tradition or policy) as an
endorsement of the idea of millions of people overrunning our borders en masse without consequence or that the U.S. is not morally allowed to
have borders at all in the first place.

No politician keeps them for 15 months...

So was he lying then or is he lying now?

Not necessarily ...except perhaps to the extent that all politicians are
    always lying.

Well, he made two contradictory and mutually exclusive assertions of
fact. They were not opinions. So either he was lying or spectacularly misinformed, neither one of which is a quality one generally looks for
    in a president.

It's an inscription, not a poem. Are you really an American?

"The New Colossus" is a sonnet by American poet Emma Lazarus. She wrote
the POEM in 1883 to raise money for the construction of the pedestal for
    the Statue of Liberty.

In 1903, the POEM was cast onto a bronze plaque and mounted inside the pedestal's lower level.

    in·scrip·tion  > /inˈskripSH(ə)n/

It may also be a poem, but it's ABSOLUTELY an inscription.

I'm glad I said that just to see Twat whine and bitch thusly.

It meant an inscription is something you read on a statue and a poem is

I do. You don't. Something can be two or more things simultaneously.
Often there is a hierarchy to descriptions in such cases. To wit, one
can assume you're a white male. Which description is the more likely to
be used, white, or male? Exact same situation. Hope this helps.

Are YOU really an American, Hutt?

It's a poem inscribed on a statue, what the fuck else do you need to >>>>>> know?

So when you said, "It's an inscription, not a poem", that meant what? >>>>
It meant an inscription is something you read on a statue and a poem is >>>> recited or printed in a book.

So "[It's] not a poem" means it's in a book?

Do you know how language works, Hutt?

I do. You don't. Something can be two or more things simultaneously.

But it can't be something that it's not.

You said it's NOT a poem. Which apparently means it's found in a book or something equally ridiculous.

when it becomes an inscription on a statue, the most accurate can correct description is that of a poem.

    What?
