• Gemma, Paul... and Mark?

From GordonD@21:1/5 to All on Mon Aug 22 17:10:34 2022
Does Bernie have another son, and if so is he known as Mark?

Gemma's actual name is Gemini, and Paul's is Apollo - America's second
and third manned space programmes. If Bernie is a spaceflight buff, then
she might have called her first child 'Mercury' (America's first space programme), or Mark for short.

    Thoughts?

Does she? There was a rumour months ago that Jacob would turn out to be her son,
but he's younger, not older, I think.

I always assumed Gemma was Gemini because she was a twin, so Paul had to have a fancy name as well when they brought Bernie in. But your theory works well too.
    And Mercury/Mark works too!

Mnd you, she might just like the names of gods, but I don't really think she would have had a classical education, do you? :-)

    Very clever Gordon!

Maybe it was done to get us thinking there might be another.

Mnd you, she might just like the names of gods, but I don't really
think she would have had a classical education, do you? :-)

Bernie seems to me to be more likely to act on pop culture things (as
the US space program would have been some time ago) rather than
something like that might involve a classical education.

I'm thinking of several instances where someone takes a liking to
something that has a historical back story without any knowledge of
that back story. Two examples that come to mind: a few years back
The Who was perfomring for the Superbowl (US 'football') half-time
show and a radio announcer commented that young people might wonder
who these "old guys" were doing a medley of "CSI theme songs".

    The Who were doing What?.

The other example was from a concert my wife and I attended in the
late 80s. The performer did a cover of a song that was out in 1979
that we were familiar with and a couple of teenage girls near us
thought the song was great and our reaction to it indicated our
familiarity with the song, so they asked, "Is this new?"

We said that it was out LONG before they were born. ;-)

    Lol.

    Including Corrie in the 80s.

I must admit I heard Mike not Mark... which would be a terrible pun...

Interesting the point about education. I am convinced that - in pre

Sorry for lateness. Not been well. Wound up in same hospital that my

Thank you - please focus positive thoughts to Kat, although in pain, I am at least home, with the benefits of familiar things and my own routine.

I'm even working part time, I do meetings laid down in bed to take the
pressure off (camera off... even though I'm dressed)

We are a smallish organsiation (225 staff)and most people know each other
well. I opened a meeting last week by saying 'I've been claiming for nearly 20yrs I can do this job lying down, now I finally get the chance to prove
    it!'

    The Who were doing What?.

All the CSI shows on US TV used songs by The Who as their theme songs:
    - original Vegas CSI: "Who Are You"
    - CSI Miami: Won't Get Fooled Again
    - CSI NY: Baba O'Riley

The original and the NY version had theme songs that seemed quite
appropriate for a forensic investigation show. I'm not as convinced
    about the NY version's theme.

On a similar note, a Canadian production company does two reality shows
titled "Border Security", one being about Canadian Border Services and
the other about the US Service. Other versions of this exist in other countries, but the Canadian-made shows use the Eurythmics "Would I Lie
To You" as their theme. Very appropriate!

Years ago, SCTV did a spoof of the old Midnight Special TV show called
Midnight Express Special in Istanbul (though they pronounce it
In-Stan-Bull). They did their version of the Abbott and Costello
    sketch using band names:

    https://youtu.be/d47wkiUDku8

The sketch starts at about 11:25
