Does Bernie have another son, and if so is he known as Mark?
Gemma's actual name is Gemini, and Paul's is Apollo - America's second
and third manned space programmes. If Bernie is a spaceflight buff, then
she might have called her first child 'Mercury' (America's first space programme), or Mark for short.
Thoughts?

Does she? There was a rumour months ago that Jacob would turn out to be her son,
but he's younger, not older, I think.
I always assumed Gemma was Gemini because she was a twin, so Paul had to have a
fancy name as well when they brought Bernie in. But your theory works well too.
And Mercury/Mark works too!

Very clever Gordon!
Maybe it was done to get us thinking there might be another.

Bernie seems to me to be more likely to act on pop culture things (as
the US space program would have been some time ago) rather than
something like that might involve a classical education.
I'm thinking of several instances where someone takes a liking to
something that has a historical back story without any knowledge of
that back story. Two examples that come to mind: a few years back
The Who was perfomring for the Superbowl (US 'football') half-time
show and a radio announcer commented that young people might wonder
who these "old guys" were doing a medley of "CSI theme songs".
The other example was from a concert my wife and I attended in the
late 80s. The performer did a cover of a song that was out in 1979
that we were familiar with and a couple of teenage girls near us
thought the song was great and our reaction to it indicated our
familiarity with the song, so they asked, "Is this new?"
We said that it was out LONG before they were born. ;-)

Including Corrie in the 80s.
I must admit I heard Mike not Mark... which would be a terrible pun...
Interesting the point about education. I am convinced that - in pre
internet days - a huge story was missed because no one in newsrooms understood the classical reference a certain 'fat lady' made....
Sorry for lateness. Not been well. Wound up in same hospital that my
father died in with suspected DVT - wasn't, but still not right 3wks later.

The Who were doing What?.
