As far as the court was concerned, Abi was a druggie, and not a suitable person, while Imran was no longer alive to say, himself, he had lied.
You say all episodes up to now, so you would know Abi is going to get
that baby unleaa something odd happens but it was needed to continue in
order to cause anothet interesting element I guess!
