• Eileen's car

From Calvin Henry-Cotnam@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jun 20 17:22:23 2022
Does anyone recall Eileen "winning" an electric vehicle?

I'm trying to recall when that was, I do recall it was when Phelan
was still around as he presented it to her. I don't recall just how
it was won, or if it was for the car itself (which has not been seen
since) or if the prize was just a short term use/lease of the vehicle.

I do recall commenting here about just where she was going to park
it to charge it. I have an archive of old episodes, but if someone
has a rough idea of when that was, it will make it a bit easier to
    find. :-)

The reason that I am asking is that there is a charger on Rosamund
Street located just outside of the chippy/medical centre.

Pedant: AC "chargers" for EVs are not actually chargers, they are
properly called an EVSE (Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment), as
they supply power to the vehicle's on-board charger. DCFCs (Direct
Current Fast Chargers) ARE chargers as they interface directly with
the vehicle's battery and do the actual charging.

I had forgotten about it! But I now recall it happening.

I found this - it was April 2017!

    https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/tv/coronation-street-corrie-eileen-12833714

No idea now what happened to it, but I doubt she had anywhere to charge it at that time, so maybe she sold it.

I often wonder, all the residents have cars, but where do they keep them? :-)

    Probably rather more recent.

They seem to call them charging stations , or charging points, I suppose "charger" is just shorthand. or shortword. :-)

She put it up for sale but I couldn't find a later mention

Yes - nobody would call it an "Equipment", and we are so used to calling
the thing we use to plug our phones in with a "charger" (because they
ARE chargers), that the name carries over.

There's a number of mis-used terms around EV charge points. The DC fast chargers around here are often referred to as "Level 3" chargers, but technically there is no such thing as a "Level 3" charger. There are
"Level 1" and "Level 2" for both AC and DC chargers, distinguished by
the level of power they deliver. But "Level 1" is used to describe
plugging into a regular wall plug, which is "Level 1 AC" as it delivers
about 1100 watts, and "Level 2" describes they typical AC charge point
that have to be installed at a home or in some public places, as they
deliver between 3000 and 7000 watts, which are "Level 2 AC".

The natural, even if incorrect, progression is to refer to the DC
    chargers as "Level 3".

Impressive! You are a walking index of Corrie information. ;-)

I had totally forgotten that she put the vehicle up for sale. There's
an interesting shot in the episode where Seb is left standing outside
Eileen's door by the car and the camera pans over to the car, oddly
like it was hand-held, and holds on the car for several seconds. Seems
to me to be intended as product placement.

Do you know the date when she got the car?

I didn't realise there were all these differences. In my condo
building we have discussed putting in chargers but most feel if you
want it, you pay for it.

I can usually find some pretty obscure things, but for some reason
    I couldn't find this.

Did Eileen ever learn to drive in the year she had the EV, or since?
