Alexander Korda's 1937 production of "I, Claudius" was abandoned after a few weeks shooting due to Merle Oberon having a car accident. Emlyn Williams, who played Caligula, said it was "a godsend," as Charles Laughton was having great difficulty in therole of Claudius. He kept forgetting his lines and stalking off the set, claiming he "couldn't find the man."
