    Tom Selleck had to turn down the role of Indiana Jones because he was
    under contract to play TV's Magnum PI.

    Pierce Brosnan originally had to turn down the role of James Bond
    because he was contracted to play TV's Remington Steele. He did
    eventually take the role later though.

    Sounds like Hollywood hype. In any case... Everybody agrees, at least in hindsight, Harrison Ford was the best possible Indiana Jones.
