    Eye of God (US) 1997

How I missed this in first run boggles my mind since Martha Plimpton was a favorite actor during the 1990s. That it is also a fascinating crime film – and I'm partial to smart crime films – adds to the mystery since I've only learned of it recently.

The story unfolds with Ainslay DuPree (Plimpton) having coffee at the local diner and chatting with the waitress Dorothy – played by one of my favorite character actors Margo Martindale – about the first date Ainsley will have with a recent parolee
that she has been corresponding with.

Several stories are told in the film and some run parallel and not always in chronological order. One of the more interesting crime films I've seen in a while.

Written – based on his novel – and directed by Tim Blake Nelson. Also starring Mary Kay Place and Hal Holbrook, among others.

I did like it, especially the unusual way the story was presented. That
worked exceptionally well, and it made the ending just about perfect. But
whom do I know that I would recommend this movie to? I bet William Ahearn
would like it, but I don’t know many others who wouldn’t be mad at me for making the recommendation. It’s not a movie for just anybody.

Present recommendations aside, anyone should know that 80 minutes of the meticulous Tim Blake Nelson writing/directing a cluster of now legendary character actors will be time well spent. Really good find.

So it is. I'm on it. I don't think I've ever watched a movie on Youtube. See

You can download it to your computer, if that helps.
