• JWST success

    From Keith F. Lynch@21:1/5 to All on Sat Dec 25 13:05:57 2021
Congratulations to everyone involved for a flawless JWST launch,
a wonderful Christmas gift for everyone interested in astronomy,
    which I watched live.

Now there are only about 300 things that can go wrong over the next
six months of gradual deployment, any one of which could turn the
entire $10 billion mission into a total failure.

Here's the detailed timeline of deployment and commissioning: https://planet4589.org/space/misc/webb/time.html

Exactly 344 according to several sources including https://spacenews.com/jwst-launch-marks-only-the-start-of-a-risky-deployment-process/

But about ten percent of them are now in the past, so about 300 remain.

Those are only the ones they've foreseen.

They are 75% through those potential single-point fails now :-)

It has just been announced that the sun shield is now fully tensioned.
