One reason my g-mail address is my emergency back-up address that I
use only when there is no other choice is that it forces me to use
IMAP instead of POP, and I've never been happy with IMAP.
I didn't realize *how* unhappy I am with it until tonight.
There is one mailing list that I signed up for in the interregnum
between Comcast and Centurylink, and never got around to moving to a
good address. It is also a mailing list that I seldom get around to
reading.
Our internet is down tonight, and I've gone brain-dead on cleaning up
old files and getting them ready to publish, so I decided I'd read
some of my back mail before going to bed.
Not a single one of the messages that I *thought* I had downloaded is
actually on my computer, including messages that had been on the
computer long enough for me to read them.
--------
Got reminded of another grumble when I got up to turn off the light my
spouse, who is already in bed, had just finished using. Alexa can't
turn off a lamp that is right next to her on the shelf without going
through the Internet.
