• International Society Of Appraisers - Reviews

From tellysoddsnends@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Tue Mar 15 07:23:38 2016
    Hi -

Wondering if anyone has any reviews or comments about the International Society Of Appraisers (ISA), and whether or not it's worth the cost for membership? I have looked at them before, but can't seem to find many first-hand reviews of them, other than
what they publish themselves on their own web site.

I did find one other Google Groups page on the subject,

    https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/reviews-of-tthe-international-society-of-appraisers/TfDEfTW54bU

    ...but with only one review.

Does anyone else have anything they can add about their experiences?

    Thanks,

    Cassie

They're a society for personal property appraisers - which is kind of obvious from their title (Duh!). I don't have any personal experience with them, but I had an uncle who was a member quite some time ago. He used to b_itch about the yearly dues, but I
guess if you join a group it's to be expected. I looked them over recently again, but I honestly can't see spending the cash that they're asking for, just to say you're a member of a society. Plus, you have to keep paying year after year. I'm in the
appraising biz and have never found the need to be part of any appraising societies out there. I do just fine on my own. But that's just me.

    I agree - they're probably not necessary,
and the continuing membership fees are a PIA,
but as a professional association they do
offer some benefits to appraisers. I think
their educational courses and classes are a
bit on the light side in certain areas
(especially in the trendy collectibles and
antiques field), but they do keep
you up to date on any changing policies or
    rules regarding current appraisal practices,
which for me, has some value. Overall,
I think the relationships I've developed with
other appraisers through ISA has been worth
it, but the yearly membership and re-testing
fees certainly sting, so it's something you'll
    have to consider.
