• My Guess Is =?UTF-8?B?SXTigJlz?= The US

Our GCSB has “has been rebuked for hosting a foreign agency’s spy
operation for several years without telling its minister, and without
knowing whether doing so was contributing to military strikes
    overseas.” <https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/improper-nz-spy-agency-slammed-for-hosting-foreign-spying-without-telling-minister-or-cabinet/7SQYOG55QNHIXOXB2GFPVJVC5U/>.

Which country the foreign spooks were from is classified, but, let’s
face it, only the US would have the chutzpah.

More information in this evening’s news. There was some mention of “equipment”, which sounds to me like signal/data/traffic analysis systems that were plugged into the GCSB’s raw data-gathering feeds. It was
uncovered by higher-ups (yup, the agents involved hadn’t even informed
their higher-ups) in 2020, and coincidentally (?), it failed around that
    time.

Coincidentally?? Or did somebody back at Fort Meade send a self-destruct
signal when word came that they’d been rumbled?

Good thing he does then as otherwise you may have been unaware of the
issue. On the other hand, some people don't deal well with facts.

It was indeed an NSA tool. Seems my earlier guess that it was
auto-destructed after being discovered was wrong: it was the equipment malfunction that led to it being discovered. Sending out rubbish data
and disrupting the GCSB network, perhaps? Or something as simple as
    shorting and blowing a fuse?

The capacity to identify VSAT installations is interesting, though. Is
that done in coordination with some of those classified satellites
    that have been launched?
