I am often dismayed at the poor eductaion that children receive nowadays. As the recipient of a classical education I was actually taught things, I was not asked to research very often at school, but it provided the foundation for a research mindset and capability during tertiary education. It did my generation very well as it had for many generations before.
I have never been keen on the idea that skills are better than knowledge - after all, skills will result from the application of knowledge. Always have done, and very effectively.
