What a pity that the Maori folk cannot see Waitangi Day as a special day
for all New Zealanders and not just a chance to throw unpleasant things
    at politicians.

It turned out fairly well really - the two minor parties got a fairly
rough reception, but they are the ones that had been throwing verbal
bombs at others. Even then the audience (and yes they were mainly
Maori) merely sang while one of them spoke. The government politicians
had been hoping for a trump like reaction - they largely got clear
    disagreement delivered politely but clearly.

I was amused when Seymour said that the Select Committee would be
taking over a year of deliberations but that it would not cost
anything - presumably he thought the MPs and staff involved had
    nothing productive to do!

The Prime Minister's priority was to get through to the audience the importance of Maori improving school attendance statistics, but the
    audience was fairly polite.

The audience was fairly polite by then because they had been told to be, you must have been watching something else.

Both parties with Maori leaders - so it was a Maori-Maori thing. A
verbal form of inter-tribal conflict typical of their cultural roots.

Even then the audience (and yes they were mainly

    Nonsense.

Correct Tony. The way that many Maori expressed their disagreement
while Seymour and Peters were speaking was far from polite. Equally
though, Peters in particular was also far from polite.

I was amused when Seymour said that the Select Committee would be

Clearly Rich is of the opinion that this debate is not worth having so
Select Committee consultations with voters should be stomped on.
Equally those opposed to the debate either fear the outcome or are
completely unaware that no change will be legislated in this
    Parliamentary term.

The Prime Minister's priority was to get through to the audience the >>importance of Maori improving school attendance statistics, but the >>audience was fairly polite.

The impression I got is that PM Luxon is now experiencing the worst
aspects of leading this government. If he can get through this
without major issues with NZF and ACT, the longevity of this
    government will be enhanced.

Well put Tony. Rich's reference to the sanctity and legal status of a >contract is also ludicrous given that all the signatories to the
Treaty are long gone. As a political agreement, there is no sanctity
of contract, just like the signatories to the UN Charter are free to
wage war in spite of it.

Clearly there are many Maori who do not want any debate on the
principles of the Treaty and that can only be because the result would >diminish their status and entitlements.

Yes Crash that is correct. I live in a community that has a much higher percentage of Maori folk than the national average and they do not want this nonsense for the reasons you state but also because they have Mana and what is happening at the moment has no Mana at all because of the greed and political nonsense being spouted by a small number of Maori elite and being believed by many innocent, caring but misled folk. It is a deliberate plan and has to stop.

Nobody in government is suggesting a change to any contract by legislation, >>however that does not mean they do not have the right to do so.

Yes, the ACT Party do, and in the Coalition agreements this will get
support for a 1st reading through to select Committee stage.
That is a lie. ACT are not saying that, they are asking for a review - they have not ever stated what they want to change only that they want it reviewed. You are a cretin, I have never seen anybody that lies so consistently and so transparently as you do.

They published a draft Bill - have you looked at it?

I went to the ACT website looking for it. All I found, using their
    search facility, was this:

    https://www.act.org.nz/defining-the-treaty-principles

The Bill that will be introduced to Parliament as per the ACT
Coalition agreement with National has yet to be published - which is
what a 1st reading in Parliament is for. Only then will we see the
specifics. There is no commitment by National to support the Bill
beyond Select Committee hearings and the Select Committee may
recommend changes based on submissions made to it.

The Bill itself changes nothing - it simply sets the scene for a
    binding referendum.

There is no justification whatever for all the hysteria being whipped
up by those opposed to the debate about whether to hold said
    referendum.

I have read everything I can find on it and the only thing that is wanted is a review through a referendum.
    So they want to talk.
What do you have against talking?
There is no intention to do anything more.
