• Excellent journalism

From one of the few journalists that we still have - a person who is left leaning but believes in balanced reporting.
Unlike the subject of his article - John Campbell who is no more a journalist than he is impartial. https://karldufresne.blogspot.com/2024/01/the-john-campbell-question.html

Diatribes such as this are interesting but NZ has moved on from TV
(state-owned or otherwise) being a major public interest. We most
likely have a significant cohort of mostly young adults who have never
watched TV news and have no idea who Campbell is.

TV news now is old tech. I watch it because it is a habit from the
days of being the only source of visual news - better than the
movietone news seen in picture theatres before it.. My 48-year-old
son has never watched TV news and does not read print media news.

Campbell is venerable but old journalism. Karl DF is the same but
    reincarnated in a blog.

It is case of the TV station needing viewers to sell advertising. So they
need someone who keeps the viewing hours up. You do this by having a ranter. Bit conververstial and delivered with a slight dose of in your face attitude.

It is all about the money. The "journalist" need to keep moving towards the edge to keep viewers watching.

Gordon, what you say is OK for a broadcaster that is privately owned -
such as TV3. For TV3, advertising (and all other forms of revenue)
are vital for survival. For TVNZ this is not the case because there
is a political angle for it to continue when profitability is reduced
    or eliminated.

It is fashionable for those on the right to pretend that TVNZ and RNZ
(and teachers funded by the State) are left-biased. The reality is
    that all news organisations are subject to Media Rules for reporting;
but opinion pieces are seen as not having to comply with all of those
rules. Karl du Fresne in his largely political blog comes across as
probably at the moderate end of National Party supporters; but the
only useful aspect of the discussion appears to be to confirm that
Tony does indeed get his opinions from right-wing blogs . . .

No I do not - you are a liar-
Karl du Fresne is left wing - his words not mine. Most journalists tend to the left and you know it.
    Piss off you lying fool.

Far from 'fashionable' - it is self evident. Oh wait - you subscribe
to the definition of the political left and right from the Political
    Compass.
