• A triumph of good government action over ideological virtue-signalling

From Crash@21:1/5 to All on Fri Jan 19 11:27:13 2024
I hope all those protesting the repeal of 'Smokefree 2025' legislation
by the new government read this:

    https://www.ash.org.nz/smokefree_laws_new_zealand_well_on_track_to_be_smokefree_next_year

Remember that the legislation repealed was not yet in effect according
to this article. It was therefore a triumph of virtue signaling over
practical worth. In fact the legislation repealed was worthless. This
is another example of how Labour squandered their time with their
    absolute majority in Parliament.

What a telling article - good on the people that actually care and know as opposed to those making left wing capital out of other people's addictions.

Well look at that. It appears that once again modellers got it wrong and
that the experts in the field were not listened to. Where have we seen that before?

"Predictive modelling, which contributed to the scientific underpinning of
the legislation, indicated that it would take until 2040 to get smoking
rates down to 8 per cent without the law. The reality is that we have
already exceeded this expectation. And a closer look reveals that the
three headline measures in the act were unlikely to have any impact
    before 2025."

Legislation powered by idealogical thought processers, and no consultation
with the people in the know.

Even if the protesters against the repeal of the proposed ban read this
article that will still say it is needed as Labour was going to do it and it was so totally needed and now National(ACT/NZF) are going to real it which meant more smokers. A case of who said it not what the facts are.

Red rag to a bull, seems to apply in such cases as this.

Yep - that's all they have in this case. Never let the facts get in
the way of an ideological crusade.
