Having read the news of yet another driveway fatality <
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/child-dies-after-being-struck-by-vehicle-in-kaitaia-far-north-driveway/DVGSVRPHDFD65CFEQCW5ZQMFBY/>:
... the incident ... occurred when a vehicle was leaving the property.
My presumption is that they were backing out, rather than going
forwards. (Possibly totally unwarranted, feel free to point out if I’m wrong.)
People seem to prefer to go forward into a driveway where they cannot
turn around, and then have to back out. I personally live on a
moderately busy road, and I prefer to go forwards when leaving rather
than back out, so I always back in.
Also I think you have better visibility going forwards than backwards,
which would make such unfortunate happenings like this less likely.
