    in the mid-North it is a season of visitors and busy times in the
    towns and beaches. Businesses everywhere need the seasonal influx and
    it is good to see well-patronised businesses over the holiday season.

    It is that time of year when we all wish each other a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

    The last year on this ng has been both interesting and frustrating as well
    as having a small dose of needing to ignore the urge for a "powerful"
    response.

    For city slickers it is also a day when the birds can be heard above the hum-drum of the traffic. also for the next fortnight it is a pleasure to
    drive in the city as the streets have about half the traffic on them.

    Yeah, Merry Saturnicus to all, or let's go back even further to 5000
    years ago when there were 360 days in the year (6x60 or 12x30) and the
    leftover 5 days did not fit into the calendar so everyone was
    dismissed for those 5 days. So a proud tradition since Baal.

    It was an overcast day to start with in the lower South Island but
    amazingly we had some blue skies and sunshine for a mid afternoon BBQ.
