    So things were not going too well, so the police hid the data/numbers and it has taken 18 months for the numbers to be "extracted".

    A pretty sorry state of affairs.

    How can the public decide if the state of their country is up to their
    standard if they do not know the facts?

    Once again Democracy is being battered.

    Once again Democracy is being battered.
    There are some bits of information that even in a strong democracy (like New Zealand three years ago) should not be made public. Examples of that are national security information and personal information that is not anybody else's business like bank balances etc.
    However there seems to be a trend for government agencies and departments to refuse to provide information, which like this story, is obviously of public interest and importance.
    I think Judge Boshier is getting a little fed up with this behaviour and good on him. It is time these departments and agencies learned who exactly they serve, clearly many of them do not understand that yet.
