Agreed. In this case the owner of the business saw the robbers as a
threat to his business, so confronting them was an impulsive action to
defend his business rather than fend off robbers. In this case it
worked, but if the result was serious harm or death (to anyone
involved including the robbers) then the business owner should not be
    blamed.

Police advice is predicated on minimum physical harm to people - they
cannot factor in the motivation to defend your business and
livelihood. It should also be noted that with the history of
robberies of this business it is likely that insurance is unaffordable
    or not available.

Lastly it would seem that the business owner should reduce his
staffing level so as to qualify for fog cannon(s).

Now you just being stupid, and playing politics. The trend of overall
crime is irrelevant to this shop owner - he is concerned about what
happened to him. All you are doing is playing politics on an event
that is unfortunately being given publicity which may well result in
more such invasions - and next time they may be better prepared.

The media is not being helpful in highlighting this sort of event; it
is cheap reporting, but ultimately anti-social in encouraging a view
that raiding shops can be done without adverse consequences . . .

What is intriguing however is that you see this as a problem that is
entirely up to central government to solve; you apparently see no role
for local police, the Taupo council, the shopowners or private
security firms. Let us hope that the shopowner had the common sense to
have continuous recording both inside and outside the shop entrance,
recording continuously to maximise the information available to the
police. If this was in England the local police would have
surveillance cameras in the street and able to track the vehicle -
including checking recordings both before and after their being in the
    shop.

You posts indicate you do not really want to solve problems like this,
Tony - all you want is to find any excuse to attack the government.
